Mumbai, April 6 (NationPress) Former MP and Maharashtra BJP figure Kirit Somaiya filed a report with the Mumbai Police concerning an attempted arson at his home and office in the early hours of Monday.

The event, which transpired on Monday, was further elaborated in a communication directed to Police Commissioner Deven Bharti.

Somaiya stated that an unknown assailant ignited a signboard positioned outside his residence and office around 1:00 a.m. The individual allegedly employed petrol or another flammable material to start the fire before fleeing the site. “As noted, I am under security protection from the Central and Maharashtra Government. CISF commandos are stationed at my residence and office, providing around-the-clock security,” he expressed in his letter.

He remarked that even though CISF commandos at the site responded swiftly upon spotting the flames, the suspect had already escaped. Through this correspondence, Somaiya has alerted the police about the ongoing security risk.

Copies of the report have also been sent to the Senior Police Station, Navghar Police Station, Mulund (East), to facilitate further investigation.

Evidence, including photographs depicting the damaged property, has been provided to aid in the identification of the perpetrator. As of April 6, 2024, the Navghar Police have confirmed the receipt of the complaint.

Recently, Somaiya appealed to the Mumbai Police commissioner regarding the persistent issue of illegal appeasement, which he believes must cease. He urged that the police should stop enforcing false regulations and restrictions under the guise of protecting Muslim mosques, Namaz, or unauthorized mosques during Ram Navami and other Hindu festivities.

In his correspondence, Somaiya noted that in recent years, the police in Mumbai and Maharashtra have been instituting peculiar rules, such as prohibiting any Hindu religious procession from passing near a mosque, or mandating silence while doing so. He highlighted the necessity for reform in this area.

“During the recent Ram Navami processions in Ghatkopar, Powai, and Chembur, police officials imposed unusual limitations under the pretext of ‘SOP’ (Standard Operating Procedure) or guidelines. Processions were halted, citing the timing of Namaz.

He further mentioned that frequently, when the illicit loudspeaker from a mosque broadcasts the Azaan (call to prayer), police instruct the speakers of the gathering or procession to cease operations and demand silence.
