Chandigarh, April 8 (NationPress) A blast occurred outside the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Cabinet minister Manoranjan Kalia in the early hours of Tuesday in Jalandhar city, Punjab, according to police reports. Kalia remained unharmed in the incident.

Immediately after the explosion, police teams were stationed at Kalia’s residence, while forensic experts began collecting evidence from the scene.

As per police information, the device, believed to be a grenade, was thrown in front of the entrance to Kalia’s home at approximately 1 a.m.

“I heard a blast around 1 a.m. While I was asleep, I mistook it for thunder. It was only later that I learned about the explosion. CCTV footage is currently under review, and forensic experts are on-site,” Kalia informed the press.

The CCTV recordings captured an individual on an e-rickshaw throwing an object before fleeing the location.

Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, who arrived at the scene, stated, “We received reports of the blast around 1 a.m. and initiated an investigation upon arrival. The forensic team is currently examining the evidence and CCTV footage to determine if this was a grenade attack or something else.”

When questioned on whether it was indeed a hand-grenade, she confirmed that the forensic team collected samples from the site.

“We will disclose all information as it becomes available,” she added.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Singh remarked that the forensic teams would analyze the evidence and provide a report.

Kalia is a former Cabinet minister and has previously served as the president of Punjab BJP.

Since November 2024, there have been ten reported explosions in various locations across the state, particularly in Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts, with a recent blast occurring outside a temple in Amritsar.
