Itanagar, July 11 (NationPress) The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (retd), on Friday, advocated for improved marketing strategies for products crafted by Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
The Governor highlighted the necessity of establishing dedicated SHG Product Marketing Hubs in prominent towns such as Itanagar, Ziro, Tezu, Pasighat, Namsai, Aalo, Bomdila, and Tawang.
He stated that while the Government can supply the infrastructure, true leadership and ownership must originate from the SHGs. The hubs should evolve into lively SHG Bazaars, showcasing the creativity and resilience of our rural women, the Governor remarked.
During a special event at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, the Governor and the state's first lady, Anagha Parnaik, engaged with SHG members from across the state.
This gathering, organized by Raj Bhavan in partnership with the Arunachal State Rural Livelihood Mission under the Department of Rural Development, celebrated the spirit of ‘Lakhpati Didis’, women who are redefining their lives and communities through entrepreneurship, resilience, and vision. He encouraged them to adopt technology, enhance packaging and branding, explore digital marketing, and elevate Arunachal’s products from local to global markets.
The Governor inspired these women to take pride in their entrepreneurial endeavors, urging them to officially register their businesses, develop group brands, and actively participate in exhibitions both within the state and nationwide.
Emphasizing the significance of innovation rooted in tradition, he motivated them to optimize local resources, including bamboo, wild fruits, herbs, recycled materials, and textiles, merging traditional wisdom with modern techniques.
He envisioned a robust ‘Made in Arunachal’ identity, advising the SHGs to collaborate with cooperative societies to pinpoint markets both within and beyond the state.
The Governor assured support in establishing working office and market spaces in districts, with aid from Deputy Commissioners and the local administration.
He also encouraged SHGs to join the ‘Train the Trainers’ initiative to develop a network of Master Didis who can guide other SHGs in vital skills like business management, accounting, hygiene, packaging, and customer service.
The Governor urged them to document their journeys, tales of challenges, growth, and achievements, to motivate others and contribute to a proposed ‘Voices of Change’ series, which aims to capture the essence of grassroots development in Arunachal.
Recognizing that many SHG members are mothers, the Governor called for their active involvement in societal issues, particularly in combating drug abuse and tuberculosis, promoting hygiene and sanitation, and ensuring every child receives basic education.
The Governor affirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of empowering Lakhpati Didis is unfolding in Arunachal Pradesh.
He stated that the SHGs of Arunachal Pradesh exemplify that this transformation is tangible, with women generating wealth with dignity, driving economic change from the grassroots, and establishing the groundwork for a Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat.
