Itanagar, July 24 (NationPress) The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd), emphasized the state's unwavering commitment to combating corruption during a recent event. This commitment is underscored by the recent enactment of the 'Zero Tolerance for Leakage and Corruption' resolution by the state Assembly.
While inaugurating a two-day capacity building training program for engineers from the state’s Public Works Department (PWD), he stressed the necessity of financial accountability in all developmental initiatives.
The Governor urged both engineers and officials to maintain the utmost standards of accountability, guarantee complete transparency in financial transactions, and handle public resources with the same diligence as their personal assets.
Additionally, he expressed deep concern regarding the quality of infrastructure within the state, particularly criticizing the frequent practice of sub-letting project works. While this may provide temporary economic advantages to certain individuals, it has significantly undermined quality, accountability, and public trust.
Lt. Gen Parnaik recommended assessing and reforming the culture surrounding sub-letting by ensuring that contracts are fulfilled by individuals who possess the necessary qualifications, capacity, and integrity.
He also encouraged engineers to adopt and incorporate cutting-edge technological tools like Artificial Intelligence (AI), GIS mapping, and smart monitoring systems throughout all phases of project planning and execution.
Stressing the significance of technical skill enhancement and ethical practices for future readiness, he called on engineers to prioritize innovation, sustainability, and above all, integrity in their endeavors.
He placed great emphasis on accountability and personal integrity, advising that each project an engineer undertakes must reflect their trustworthiness regarding design, quality, budget, timeline, and societal impact.
Moreover, Lt. Gen Parnaik insisted that quality must never be compromised.
The State PWD and the Indian Building Congress, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, collaborated to organize this two-day training program, which aims to equip PWD engineers with the latest knowledge and practices in engineering, planning, execution, and ethical governance in infrastructure development. Engineers from across the state are participating in the program, which features expert lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions.
