Guwahati, Aug 4 (NationPress) The Assam BJP's state unit is actively getting ready for the imminent visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aimed at launching several significant projects in the region, as confirmed by a senior party official on Monday.
A meeting was held on Sunday night where senior leaders of the state unit gathered to assess their preparations for the anticipated visits of PM Modi and HM Shah.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has provided various directives to ensure the success of these visits.
BJP state Chief Dilip Saikia shared on his X handle, “Participated in a vital virtual meeting today led by Hon’ble CM Dr. @himantabiswa, focusing on the preparations for the visit of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji and Hon’ble HM Shri @AmitShah Ji to Assam.”
“The CM emphasized the progress of key developmental programs and the effective implementation of Har Ghar Tiranga. He urged all workers to ensure a smooth and impactful execution of these initiatives. Senior leaders, MPs, MLAs, and district presidents also participated in the discussion,” he added.
HM Shah will arrive in Assam on August 29 to inaugurate the newly constructed Raj Bhavan in Guwahati, as stated earlier by CM Sarma.
After the inauguration, HM Shah will address a convention of newly elected NDA panchayat members, where representatives will be officially honored. The Home Minister, who also oversees the Cooperation portfolio, will introduce a new initiative aimed at establishing cooperative societies in each panchayat throughout the state.
CM Sarma indicated that this initiative aims to motivate youth-led cooperatives to engage in dairy farming and agricultural endeavors on previously unused government land. These cooperatives will have the opportunity to lease vacant land at a nominal rate, transforming encroachment-prone areas into valuable community resources.
In the evening of August 29, Shah is also expected to initiate the centenary celebrations of Golap Borbora, Assam’s first non-Congress Chief Minister. Borbora played a crucial role in the state’s political landscape, having been imprisoned during the Emergency for opposing the government led by Indira Gandhi and subsequently leading the Janata Party to victory in the 1978 Assembly elections. Although his term as CM was brief, he is recognized for breaking the Congress' stronghold in Assam politics.
The Home Minister is anticipated to return to New Delhi on the same evening after fulfilling his commitments in the state.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on September 8, where he will inaugurate a range of major developmental projects, including a state-of-the-art bio-refinery in Numaligarh.
CM Sarma previously mentioned that PM Modi will open the Numaligarh bio-refinery, a ₹4,200 crore facility designed to produce 2G ethanol from bamboo. This initiative is part of the Centre’s broader commitment to green energy and sustainable industrial growth in the Northeast.
PM Modi is also expected to engage in a high-level meeting at the Numaligarh site. Afterward, he will head to Mangaldoi in Darrang district to lay the foundation stones for several crucial infrastructure projects, including a ring road for Guwahati, a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River linking Kurua and Narengi, and the proposed Darrang Medical College.
Later that day, PM Modi will return to Guwahati to inaugurate the centenary celebrations of cultural icon and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. This year-long celebration, organized by the Assam government, will commence with a grand inaugural event featuring prominent dignitaries and cultural figures. “Preparations are in full swing to welcome the Prime Minister. It will be a day-long program to pay tribute to the legacy of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika,” CM Sarma noted.
