Key Takeaways
Guwahati, January 4 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are anticipated to visit the state later this month, pending official confirmation of the proposed programs.
In a briefing with the media, the Chief Minister revealed that invitations have already been sent to both leaders for specific dates this January.
"We have formally invited the Honourable Prime Minister for January 17 and 18. Likewise, we have scheduled an invitation for Honourable Home Minister Amit Shah on January 29," CM Sarma stated, highlighting the strong likelihood of both visits occurring this month, subject to final approval from the central government.
If confirmed, these visits would signify a notable period of high-level Central interaction with Assam in a relatively brief time frame.
Both PM Modi and HM Shah are pivotal in determining the political and developmental agendas in the northeastern region, with their upcoming visits expected to concentrate on significant infrastructure and governance initiatives.
The Chief Minister's comments follow a busy December for Assam, characterized by several notable visits from Central leaders.
PM Modi's recent visit on December 21 included laying the foundation for a ₹10,601-crore brownfield ammonia-urea fertilizer plant in Dibrugarh district, which aims to enhance fertilizer production, lessen import reliance, and bolster agricultural support for Assam and neighboring states.
On December 29, HM Shah also made a trip to Assam, during which he inaugurated the Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir in Guwahati. This venue, hailed as the largest auditorium in the Northeast, is expected to become a significant center for cultural, artistic, and public events in the area.
Officials stated that additional information regarding the proposed January visits will be provided once the programs gain formal confirmation.
