In a post on X, Sarma stated, “We are making every effort to guarantee that Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji's visit is both successful and smooth, as he will be inaugurating two major initiatives for Assam - the Guwahati Airport and the Namrup Ammonia-Urea Plant.
On December 21, PM Modi is scheduled to visit Naharkatia to lay the cornerstone for a new urea production facility at the Namrup Fertiliser Plant. This project is expected to significantly enhance the region’s industrial framework and agricultural support systems.
The planned unit is set to have an estimated annual output of 1.2 million metric tonnes and is regarded as one of the most vital fertiliser infrastructure advancements in the Northeast in recent decades.
Sarma emphasized that upon completion, the project will not only bolster domestic urea production but also generate substantial employment opportunities and foster ancillary industrial networks throughout upper Assam.
The Assam government has pledged that construction will be completed within three years of the project’s initiation.
Prior to the Prime Minister’s arrival, Sarma conducted a thorough review of the preparations on Wednesday and assessed the security measures being implemented for this prominent event.
Sarma engaged in detailed discussions with senior officials from the Assam Police, district administration, and various departments responsible for logistics and event coordination.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also led a meeting with key state government officials, including Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, to ensure smooth inter-departmental cooperation as the Prime Minister’s program approaches.
Ministers Piyush Hazarika and Prashant Phukan, along with Naharkatiya MLA Tarang Gogoi, accompanied Sarma during the review.
As per preliminary schedules, the Prime Minister is anticipated to address a public gathering at the venue on December 21 at 10:30 a.m., where he is likely to discuss the importance of the new fertiliser project and the Centre’s ongoing commitment to enhancing industrial and agricultural growth in the Northeast.
