Guwahati, Dec 10 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday reviewed the preparations for the anticipated visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Naharkatia, Assam, where he will inaugurate several important development initiatives.

On December 21, PM Modi will arrive in Naharkatia to lay the foundation stone for a new, significant urea production facility at the Namrup Fertiliser Plant. This project is expected to profoundly enhance the region's industrial landscape and agriculture support systems.

The proposed facility, with an estimated capacity of 1.2 million metric tonnes annually, is being touted as one of the most vital upgrades to fertiliser infrastructure in the Northeast in recent years.

According to CM Sarma, this project will not only bolster domestic urea availability but also generate substantial employment opportunities and foster the development of associated industrial networks across upper Assam.

The Assam government has assured that the construction is anticipated to conclude within three years from the start date.

Prior to the Prime Minister’s arrival, the Chief Minister conducted a thorough assessment of the preparations at the location and examined the security measures being put in place for this high-profile event.

Sarma engaged in detailed discussions with senior officials from the Assam Police, district administration, and the departments tasked with logistics and event management.

During his assessment, the Chief Minister also led a meeting with top state officials, including Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, to guarantee seamless inter-departmental collaboration in the lead-up to the Prime Minister’s visit.

Ministers Piyush Hazarika and Prashant Phukan, along with Naharkatiya MLA Tarang Gogoi, accompanied the Chief Minister during this review.

As per preliminary schedules, the Prime Minister is expected to address a public gathering at the venue on December 21 at 10:30 a.m., where he is likely to emphasize the importance of the new fertiliser project and the Centre’s ongoing commitment to enhancing industrial and agricultural development in the Northeast.

Officials have stated that security protocols have been heightened, with multiple agencies coordinating efforts to manage crowds, control traffic, and ensure emergency response systems are in place.

Final preparations for the stage, access routes, public seating areas, and technical infrastructure are ongoing to ensure the event proceeds without a hitch. The Namrup fertiliser complex, one of India’s oldest, has long required modernization.

The new urea project signifies a crucial advancement in revitalizing the facility and transforming it into a modern, energy-efficient unit that can meet the fertiliser demands of the region for many years.
