Assam Chief Minister Participates in Historic Gathering of Police Chiefs

Guwahati, Dec 7 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the inaugural reunion seminar of the chiefs of Assam Police at the DGP Office in Ulubari, Guwahati, on Friday evening, as reported by officials.

The seminar brought together IPS officers from Assam, offering a platform for those who have held the positions of DGP of Assam, DGP of Meghalaya, and heads of CAPFs to connect.

During his address, Sarma emphasized that this first reunion seminar of Assam Police Chiefs presents a special opportunity for active police personnel to gain insights from the rich experiences of those who have established a world-class police force dedicated to ensuring a safe Assam.

He articulated that the seminar transcends a mere formal gathering; it serves as a significant tribute to the remarkable contributions that have not only defined the identity and successes of the Assam Police but have also played a crucial role in the security and unity of India.

The Chief Minister remarked that this seminar is an extraordinary venue where current law enforcement officials can interact with and learn from pioneers who have navigated this challenging terrain before them.

Sarma acknowledged that previous chiefs encountered considerable challenges, managed complex crises, and upheld the integrity of their profession with exceptional grit and ethics.

“As we gather today, we honor not only the esteemed legacy of former chiefs but also their lasting impact on the law enforcement and security landscape of our state and nation. This assembly is a timely occasion to reflect on our historical achievements, assimilate lessons from our esteemed predecessors, and collaboratively devise a strategy for the future. This platform is an opportunity to reaffirm our dedication to maintaining the rule of law, safeguarding our borders, and ensuring a brighter and safer future for the generations ahead,” asserted the Chief Minister.

Praising the contributions of former DGPs, the Chief Minister highlighted that their leadership during some of the most challenging epochs cannot be underestimated. Their foresight, command, and resilience have been pivotal in steering the Assam Police through times of volatility and strife. The former chiefs laid the groundwork for a strong law enforcement framework capable of withstanding and overcoming the trials it faced, he added.

Sarma noted that the repercussions of militancy have profoundly affected the courageous police personnel, who often faced life-threatening situations while striving to restore order and peace.

“In spite of these challenges, the Assam Police exhibited unmatched resilience and a steadfast commitment to their responsibilities. They stood firm against anti-social elements, diligently protecting the state from all crises,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government is implementing various measures to technologically empower Assam Police, enabling them to effectively tackle modern crimes and their complexities.

He mentioned that Assam police personnel are receiving training in forensic science to effectively handle intricate cases.
