Guwahati, Dec 2 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that the state has experienced a remarkable evolution in its policing system, transitioning from a time characterized by poor infrastructure and public reluctance to visit police stations to a new phase marked by modern amenities and heightened public trust.

In a post on X, Sarma emphasized that Assam’s law enforcement framework has progressed rapidly in recent years, driven by continuous government funding aimed at modernization and a fresh emphasis on citizen-friendly policing.

“From a time when police facilities were in disarray, and citizens were hesitant to approach Thanas to a time where law enforcement has contemporary infrastructure and the community trusts a supportive police force, Assam has made substantial progress in a brief period,” he expressed.

The Chief Minister underscored that this transformation is part of his administration's wider initiative to reinforce internal security and enhance the accessibility and accountability of public-facing institutions.

In recent years, Assam has experienced the development of technologically advanced police stations, upgraded forensic resources, modern vehicles, and enhanced living accommodations for personnel.

Officials assert that these initiatives have been pivotal in transforming public perception of the police.

Sarma’s statements come at a time when the state government is advocating numerous reforms, including the digitization of services and increasing female representation in the police force. The establishment of citizen service centers, online FIR systems, and improved communication networks has further bridged the gap between law enforcement and the public.

Analysts remark that the Chief Minister’s focus on enhanced trust signifies a crucial aspect of the state's governance narrative, especially as law and order has remained a significant political discussion point in Assam.

Recent official data indicates declines in specific crime categories and improved response mechanisms in both urban and rural areas.
