Guwahati, Feb 13 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the state has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from a region with limited forensic facilities to becoming a leader in crime investigation and justice delivery by effectively utilizing modern forensic technologies.

In a statement shared on X, CM Sarma highlighted that for many years, insufficient forensic resources hindered timely investigations and compromised the justice delivery system in Assam. Nevertheless, consistent institutional reforms and strategic investments in recent years have significantly enhanced the state's forensic landscape, enabling law enforcement agencies to tackle crimes in a more scientific, transparent, and efficient manner.

Officials have reported that the Assam government has bolstered forensic science laboratories, expanded district-level forensic units, and increased the number of trained forensic professionals available to assist police investigations.

The implementation of advanced technologies like DNA profiling, cyber forensics, ballistic analysis, and digital evidence examination has markedly improved the quality of evidence presented in court.

According to senior officials, the refined forensic framework has resulted in quicker investigation processes, elevated conviction rates in serious offenses, and reduced reliance on confessional statements. The early integration of forensic evidence has also minimized procedural errors and strengthened prosecution cases. The state has prioritized capacity building by offering specialized training to police officers, prosecutors, and forensic experts to guarantee effective collection, preservation, and presentation of scientific evidence.

Officials noted that inter-departmental coordination among the police, forensic laboratories, and the judiciary has been enhanced to optimize case workflows.

CM Sarma stated that this transformation signifies Assam's broader commitment to fortifying the rule of law and enhancing public confidence in the criminal justice system.

He emphasized that technology-driven policing and evidence-based investigations are vital for achieving swift and equitable justice.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that Assam's advancements are in line with national initiatives to modernize policing and forensic infrastructure, particularly considering new criminal laws that highlight the significance of scientific evidence in investigations and trials.

Officials mentioned that further investments are planned to extend forensic outreach to remote and rural areas, ensuring that scientific investigation tools are accessible throughout the state.

The government has reiterated that the ongoing enhancement of forensic capabilities will continue to be a cornerstone of Assam’s law-and-order strategy, aimed at creating a more robust, trustworthy, and citizen-centric justice delivery system.
