Guwahati, Dec 30 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma initiated the distribution of entrepreneurship fund cheques as part of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan targeting women beneficiaries from the Manas Assembly constituency in Baksa district and the Bhabanipur-Sarbhog Assembly constituency in Barpeta district. This effort underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to women's welfare and inclusive development.
During a public event held in Manas, the Chief Minister presented Rs 10,000 each to 30,737 women entrepreneurs from the Manas area, while 25,157 women from the Bhabanipur-Sarbhog constituency also received identical financial aid later that day.
This initial funding is designed to empower women linked with self-help groups (SHGs) to gain financial independence and transform into Lakhpati Baideu.
Speaking to the audience, Sarma highlighted that Assam boasts nearly 40 lakh women connected with SHGs, with over 8 lakh already attaining Lakhpati Baideu status. “If 8 lakh women can achieve economic self-reliance, so can others. Our objective is to make every SHG member in Assam a Lakhpati Baideu within three years,” he stated, adding that the government intends to assist beneficiaries through training, credit linkages, and phased financial support.
Sarma elaborated that the effective use of the initial Rs 10,000 will qualify beneficiaries for subsequent financial assistance of Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 in later stages.
The Chief Minister also shared inspiring success stories from the Manas and Bhabanipur-Sarbhog constituencies, showcasing women who have successfully enhanced their livelihoods and bolstered household incomes.
In addition to these measures, Sarma announced that ration card holders are currently receiving pulses, salt, and sugar at subsidized prices, which will see further reductions starting January 1. He also mentioned the possibility of providing these essentials free of charge in the future.
Under the Orunodoi 3.0 scheme, more beneficiaries will be included to ensure extensive coverage.
Discussing broader development efforts, the Chief Minister noted that Assam has experienced remarkable advancements in infrastructure, employment, healthcare, and education. He pointed out that around 1.5 lakh youths have secured government jobs over the past five years through a transparent and merit-based recruitment process.
Numerous ministers, senior officials, public representatives, and beneficiaries were present at the event.
