Guwahati, Feb 20 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made startling statements in the Assembly regarding the purported connections of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi with Pakistan.
He asserted that once the complete investigation conducted by the Assam Police is disclosed, it would be “deadly” for the Congress party, resulting in a “significant” impact.
Sarma revealed, “Pakistani national Ali Sheikh, against whom an FIR has been registered for comments that may disrupt internal peace, has reportedly visited India 18 times between 2010 and 2018, according to preliminary findings by the Assam Police.
He elaborated, “The Special Investigation Team probing this issue discovered within just three days that Sheikh made multiple trips to India. A detailed investigation will uncover who facilitated his visits and who he interacted with during his time here. We will disclose this information in the coming days.”
“The initial data I possess on this issue will be extremely detrimental for the Congress party. It will pose a considerable challenge for them,” the Chief Minister remarked.
“I previously advised Pradyut Bordoloi not to criticize me over politics. This situation is about to escalate,” Sarma added.
“As a responsible leader, I assert in the Assembly that the ramifications of this matter will be substantial in Assam's political landscape,” he continued.
The Chief Minister directed his criticism towards Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, stating, “Saikia questioned the extent of the Assam Police's investigation. Yes, we will probe to the fullest extent, and if necessary, we will refer the case to the NIA.”
In reference to the recent Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma Committee report concerning the cash-for-job scandal, which linked disgraced official Rakesh Paul to former CM Tarun Gogoi and Gaurav Gogoi, Sarma commented, “The committee's findings were merely 10 percent of the truth. This matter concerning Pakistan connections is 1000 percent more significant, and it will be monumental.”
The CM also criticized Gaurav Gogoi, stating, “Certain individuals attempted to portray me as the villain while presenting themselves as heroes, and soon the public will learn about their true character.”
Sarma further stated, “I assure the Assam Assembly that we will present a comprehensive report of the investigation by August. Please allow us three months for this inquiry. It will be substantial. I am aware of the facts informally, but they need to be documented. We will present the information in the Assembly, which will shake the political framework.”
