Guwahati, Nov 13 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Thursday that the state administration will be strictly vigilant against individuals who glorify violence. This announcement comes as police ramp up efforts to target those disseminating inflammatory and offensive content on social media in the aftermath of the recent Delhi blasts.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister revealed that 15 individuals have been apprehended throughout Assam for their involvement in sharing objectionable posts that purportedly celebrated or justified the blasts.
He emphasized that the government has instructed law enforcement to take decisive action against any attempts to disrupt communal harmony or spread animosity online.
“In relation to the offensive social media posts linked to the Delhi blasts, 15 individuals have been arrested across Assam thus far. Assam Police remains unwavering in its stance against those who romanticize violence,” CM Sarma posted on X.
The Chief Minister noted that nine individuals were arrested overnight, in addition to six earlier arrests.
The latest apprehensions include Rafijul Ali from Bongaigaon, Forid Uddin Laskar from Hailakandi, Inamul Islam and Firuj Ahmed (alias Papon) from Lakhimpur, Shahil Shoman Sikdar (alias Shahidul Islam) and Rakibul Sultan from Barpeta, Nasim Akram from Hojai, Taslim Ahmed from Kamrup, and Abdur Rohim Mollah (alias Bappy Hussain) from South Salmara.
Previously, six other individuals had been arrested from various districts for similar offenses.
Law enforcement reported that all 15 were detained for posting or sharing content that allegedly glorified acts of terror or attempted to incite communal discord.
A senior police official stated that Assam Police’s cyber units are actively surveilling online activities and will persist in their rigorous response against anyone misusing social media.
“We are closely monitoring digital platforms. No one will evade consequences if found promoting violence or disturbing public peace,” the official asserted.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a stern warning on Wednesday after the recent Delhi blast, underscoring that education alone cannot prevent radicalization.
On that day, he characterized the Delhi blast as a “new dimension of extremism,” urging the nation to reevaluate its understanding of what drives individuals towards terrorism and ideological violence.
