Guwahati, Oct 29 (NationPress) As Zubeen Garg’s final film Roi Roi Binale generates excitement ahead of its release on October 31, the Assam government declared on Wednesday its decision to allocate the complete state share of Goods and Services Tax (GST) derived from the film to the Kala Guru Artiste Foundation.
During a cabinet meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that these funds would assist the foundation in providing medical aid to artists in need, supporting families affected by floods, and offering financial help to underprivileged students pursuing education.
“This is our heartfelt tribute to the late Zubeen Garg, whose impact on Assam's culture is unmatched. Roi Roi Binale is not merely a film — it embodies his lasting artistic vision and love for the people of Assam,” Sarma stated.
He further noted that although the government does not impose an entertainment tax on Assamese films, the GST revenue from Roi Roi Binale will be directed towards causes that were close to Garg’s heart.
“Through this initiative, we aim to ensure that Zubeen’s legacy continues to support the creative and cultural community he cherished,” the Chief Minister emphasized.
This announcement coincided with various other cabinet decisions, including the green light for the Rs 2,205.75 crore ADB-aided Climate Resilient Brahmaputra Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Project (Phase II), and amendments to the Assam Land Policy, 2019, to grant hereditary land rights to the Moran and Matak communities.
The cabinet also sanctioned financial grants of Rs 25,000 each to 2,068 Raas Committees across Assam and Rs 50,000 to 67 committees in Majuli, acknowledging their contributions to the preservation of traditional art and culture.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Sarma celebrated the success of the Betkuchi High School football team, winners of the 64th Subroto Cup (Junior Girls, U-17), presenting a cheque of Rs 50,000 to each player in recognition of their achievement.
