Key Takeaways
Guwahati, December 20 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Saturday that the global perspective on India has evolved significantly as the nation diligently strives to achieve its ambition of becoming a developed country by 2047.
He pointed out Assam's increasing strategic and economic significance, stating that the state is emerging as a crucial engine of Viksit Bharat and a key gateway to eastern India.
The Prime Minister noted that the collaborative efforts of all states contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat, with Assam and other northeastern states playing an essential role in this national endeavor.
Modi mentioned that continuous investments in infrastructure are enhancing Assam's connectivity and unlocking its potential for development.
He highlighted the transformative changes in connectivity across the Brahmaputra river, noting that only three bridges were built in the six decades following Independence, while four new ones have been constructed in just the past decade. This improved connectivity has become a significant driver for economic growth, mobility, and regional integration within Assam.
Furthermore, Modi stated that the Centre's Act East Policy is being executed with renewed vigor, positioning Assam at the heart of India's interactions with Southeast Asia.
Enhanced road, rail, air, and river connectivity is allowing the state to emerge as a hub for trade, tourism, and logistics for the entire eastern and northeastern region.
The Prime Minister claimed that with strong infrastructure, supportive policies, and active participation from the people, Assam is making steady progress toward becoming a cornerstone of India's developmental journey.
Earlier that day, PM Modi inaugurated the state-of-the-art terminal building of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, marking a significant milestone in Assam's aviation infrastructure.
Accompanied by Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Modi celebrated the new terminal designed to accommodate an annual passenger volume of 13.1 million. This facility is expected to greatly improve air connectivity in the Northeast while establishing new standards in sustainability and technology-driven airport operations in the country.
