The drug seizure took place in the Sadarashi area of the district.
The authorities have taken two individuals into custody on suspicion of drug trafficking.
In a post on his official X handle, CM Sarma stated, “YABA Tablets Worth ₹2 Crore Seized In an anti-narcotics operation, @sribhumipolice recovered 10,000 YABA tablets at Sadarashi. 2 peddlers have been arrested in this connection. Kudos to @assampolice.”
According to police sources, legal actions were initiated under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.
Just last week, Assam Police confiscated narcotics worth Rs 9.5 crore and arrested three individuals, including a woman, in two separate operations.
A spokesperson for the Assam Police reported that based on reliable intelligence regarding the transport of illegal substances from Silchar (southern Assam) to Guwahati via the Silchar--Coimbatore Express train, a team from the Panbazar Police station was dispatched to the Guwahati railway station.
A female suspect was recognized and detained upon the train's arrival, according to the spokesperson.
Following established legal protocols and in the presence of independent witnesses, the search resulted in the seizure of 20,000 highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, worth Rs 5 crore, along with a mobile phone and Rs 1,000 in cash.
The suspect, identified as Parvina Khatun Bibi (31), has been taken into custody. She is a resident of Sadialer Khuti village in Cooch Behar, West Bengal.
In another operation, the Assam Police apprehended two drug peddlers in Salchapra within the Cachar district, confiscating 847 grams of heroin and 4.035 kg of opium, with the total estimated value of the drugs reaching Rs 4.5 crore. Authorities suspect that these drugs were smuggled from Myanmar through Mizoram into Assam via an illicit route.
Myanmar, sharing a 1,643 km unfenced border with four northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram—serves as a major transit hub for drugs, especially heroin and methamphetamine tablets, entering India.
Myanmar's Chin State is a central point for the smuggling of various drugs, exotic wildlife, and other contraband through six districts in Mizoram: Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip.
