Assam Power Minister Prioritizes Continuous Electricity Supply

Guwahati, Dec 10 (NationPress) Assam Power Minister Prasanta Phukan has emphasized that ensuring a 24-hour electricity supply in the state is the utmost priority of the government.

Phukan made these remarks after officially taking on his role as power minister on Tuesday.

Prior to assuming his duties, he sought blessings from Goddess Kamakhya at the summit of Nilachal Hills in Guwahati.

The minister shared with reporters, “Assam is making significant progress under the capable leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The power department has implemented several initiatives in recent years to enhance electricity connectivity throughout the state. I am committed to advancing the efforts made by the department while also exploring new opportunities.”

Phukan also mentioned that he plans to convene discussions with senior officials of the power department in the coming days to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the state.

“Our primary focus is to guarantee 24 x 7 electricity supply. I will engage with officials to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation. Having just taken on the responsibilities of the power department, it will require some time to familiarize myself with various aspects,” he added.

This cabinet expansion marked the first since Himanta Biswa Sarma took on the role of Chief Minister three years ago, with four new ministers being assigned portfolios on Monday.

Four ministerial positions had been vacant, three of which have existed since the beginning of Sarma's term, while one became available following former Minister Parimal Suklabaidya's election victory in this year’s Lok Sabha polls.

Prasanta Phookan, Kaushik Rai, Krishnendu Paul, and Rupesh Goala recently took their oaths as ministers.

Additionally, a new department named the Barak Valley Development Department has been established, which will be managed by a minister from this region.

In its previous meeting, the state cabinet approved the formation of the Barak Valley Development Department, which is dedicated to creating new opportunities for the progress of southern Assam.
