New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has called on industry leaders, startups, and investors to collaborate in shaping Assam’s future, emphasizing that a combination of policy innovation, enhanced connectivity, and effective governance has laid a robust groundwork for long-lasting regional prosperity.
He highlighted that Assam is strategically poised to become a regional growth center under India’s Act East Policy, encouraging entrepreneurs to utilize the state's geography, connectivity, and reforms in governance to foster inclusive development throughout the Northeast and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat.
In his keynote address at the second Guwahati Dialogue, Sonowal pointed out that Assam can access a market of approximately 800 million people, extending from Nepal to Myanmar, as India strengthens economic and logistical ties with Southeast Asia.
“Assam today finds itself at a unique geographical junction. With the Act East Policy guiding us, and under the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the state is set to serve a market of nearly 800 million people from Nepal to Myanmar. I urge entrepreneurs to seize this opportunity and position Assam as a gateway for regional growth,” Sonowal stated to the attendees.
The minister remarked that the past 11 years have marked a transformative phase in India’s 76 years of Independence, characterized by structural reforms, innovations, and governance focused on people under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“In the 76 years of our Independence, the last 11 years under PM Narendra Modi have been nothing short of transformational. Innovative policies, effective governance, and timely execution have linked once-overlooked cities like Gangtok and Aizawl, enhancing the quality of life and fostering trust through a people-centric approach,” the minister emphasized.
He also noted PM Modi's continuous engagement with the Northeast, mentioning that Modi has visited the region over 70 times, reinforcing a sense of national unity and shared responsibility in nation-building under the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.
Addressing the mandate of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the minister highlighted the significance of pollution-free inland waterways for environmental sustainability and economic efficiency, stressing that “waterways are not merely transport corridors; they represent a way of life.”
