Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 10 (NationPress) In an unprecedented move under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiative, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed on Tuesday that Rs 9,000 will be distributed to each of 40 lakh beneficiary families as part of the Orunodoi Scheme 3.0.
As a result, Rs 9,000 has been credited to the bank accounts of women representing 4 million families, marking a historic advancement for women-led households in Assam, according to the state government.
The Chief Minister facilitated the transfer of funds to each of the beneficiary families via direct benefit transfer, enhancing the financial stability and dignity of women throughout the state.
Several beneficiary women participated in the main event virtually from various locations through over 3,800 public gatherings organized in village panchayats, autonomous council constituencies, village development committees, and urban ward committees, highlighting the extensive reach and impact of this initiative.
A beneficiary from Sonapur expressed gratitude, stating, "I want to thank the government for this. This support will help us manage our household and our children's educational needs more effectively. We will ensure they are well taken care of. As long as Himanta Biswa Sarma's government is in power, we will receive substantial relief."
Another beneficiary, Jasmina Begum, remarked, "I want to thank the government for this significant assistance. It can alleviate many of our challenges, and we can achieve a lot with this aid."
Chief Minister Himanta Sarma noted that the scheme has been operational since 2020. Unlike many other states, Assam's fund transfers are not extensive but are specifically designated for a targeted group of women, ensuring the scheme remains well-regulated.
Assam's Finance Minister Ajanta Neog described this initiative as a groundbreaking step, mentioning that nearly 4 million families, primarily women, are beneficiaries of the scheme.
She stated that over the last five years, multiple significant welfare programs have been introduced in the state to assist underprivileged families and women throughout their lifecycle. Neog emphasized that schemes like the Orunodoi have empowered women, granting them greater financial independence and respect within their families and society.
