Guwahati, Feb 12 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday declared that the state government is focused on transforming Assam into a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing. He noted that the construction of the upcoming semiconductor manufacturing plant is nearing completion.
Sarma took to X to share, “With Tata’s semiconductor facility in Jagiroad, Assam is on the brink of establishing itself as a significant player in OSAT, which is crucial for the final phases of semiconductor production.”
He continued, “Today I had the opportunity to tour the AEM Singapore campus and explore their state-of-the-art testing facilities. I also engaged with leaders from the Singapore Semiconductor Industries Association and other stakeholders within the semiconductor ecosystem. Our aspiration is to position Assam as a global semiconductor hub. To realize this vision, we are encouraging companies involved in the complete semiconductor manufacturing process to set up operations in Assam.”
“Simultaneously, we are launching an extensive skilling initiative to prepare our workforce for the demands of Industry 4.0 by establishing a World Skill Centre in partnership with international industries and educational institutions,” he added.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the Chairman and CEOs of AEM Holdings, Cleantech, Lewe Engineering, STATS Chippac, along with leaders from Enterprise SG, Akribis Systems, PEP Innovation, MTI, and Temasek Polytechnic for their invaluable insights today. Sarma emphasized that the semiconductor facilities in Gujarat and Assam, along with forthcoming projects in quantum physics and artificial intelligence, will be developed in India,” he stated.
He reiterated that India is poised to provide the skilled workforce essential for these sectors, catering not just to domestic needs but also to international demands.
“To prepare for this, it is imperative to equip India’s youth with the requisite skills. The semiconductor project at Jagiroad is advancing swiftly, with production anticipated to commence by year-end,” he remarked.
Additionally, he underscored the significance of a skilled workforce for these initiatives and pointed out that the recently inaugurated National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), which is now recognized as a deemed-to-be university, will be instrumental in cultivating this talent.
