New Delhi, Sep 25 (NationPress) The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, in partnership with the University of Kashmir, unveiled the ATL Sarthi and Frontier Region Programme on Thursday, announcing the establishment of 500 new Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) across Jammu & Kashmir.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh expressed that Jammu & Kashmir is poised to be a beacon for India’s vision towards Destination 2047.
During his address, Dr Singh highlighted the economic ascent of India, moving from rank 4 to rank 3, attributing future value additions to regions and resources that are currently underutilized, with J&K fitting this criterion perfectly.
He remarked that the region only began to receive significant focus post-2014, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting how the region's rich Himalayan and river resources have seen revitalized initiatives, such as the Aroma Mission.
The Union Minister pointed out that Jammu & Kashmir has the potential to be a key player in India’s innovation-driven growth within the next two decades.
While celebrating the launch of the ATL Sarthi initiative in Srinagar, Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that it signified a “dual celebration” — for Kashmir University becoming a pivotal player in India’s growth journey, and for AIM broadening its innovation outreach to this vital Union Territory.
He announced that the Frontier Region Programme will see the installation of 500 new ATLs in J&K, representing the largest portion of the 2,500 labs designated for frontier regions, with an investment of Rs 100 crore.
These labs will provide school students access to state-of-the-art technologies, including robotics, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence, fostering innovation from a young age.
Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, emphasized the transformative potential of innovation-centered education for inclusive progress.
“The Atal Tinkering Lab is a tribute to former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. These labs empower our youth, equipping them with tools for discovery, self-growth, and essential skills like problem-solving. By nurturing the curiosity of India’s ‘Amrit Generation’, ATL labs are laying the groundwork for a developed and aspirational nation,” he stated.
