Kolkata, Oct 19 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party has launched a direct attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led government following the assault on BJP MP Raju Bista's convoy, accusing the administration of inciting unrest in North Bengal.
Amit Malviya, the BJP's IT cell chief and central observer for West Bengal, expressed his concerns in a post on X, indicating that the continuous attacks on BJP MPs highlight the ruling Trinamool Congress's escalating anxiety regarding its potential defeat in the upcoming 2026 Bengal Assembly elections.
"Following the assault on Tribal MP Khagen Murmu in Jalpaiguri, BJP MP Raju Bista’s convoy was attacked today in Masdhura, near Sukhia Pokhari, Darjeeling. Fortunately, the attack narrowly missed the MP’s vehicle and struck the car behind. However, the timing — occurring right after the announcement of an interlocutor for the area — raises significant doubts about Mamata Banerjee’s true intentions," stated Malviya.
On Saturday evening, while returning from Rimbik after engaging in relief efforts, BJP MP Raju Bista's convoy faced an attack by miscreants in the Sukhia Pokhari region of Darjeeling district.
In response to the incident, Malviya criticized the Mamata Banerjee government for its negligence towards the North Bengal region and for the injustices faced by its residents.
"It’s evident she aims to disrupt harmony in North Bengal, a region her administration has persistently overlooked and treated unjustly. The ongoing assaults on BJP MPs signify Mamata Banerjee’s increasing fear and paranoia concerning her party’s looming defeat in the forthcoming Assembly elections," he remarked.
This incident follows weeks after BJP MP Khagen Murmu and party MLA Shankar Ghosh were attacked in Nagrakata of Jalpaiguri district.
Murmu and Ghosh encountered protests while providing aid to the flood-affected areas in Nagrakata, where miscreants assaulted the BJP leaders with sticks and stones, vandalizing their vehicles.
Khagen Murmu suffered significant facial injuries and both leaders were subsequently hospitalized for treatment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, while Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the injured BJP MP. In connection with the assault on Khagen Murmu, six individuals were arrested.
