Ranchi, March 6 (NationPress) Babulal Marandi has been unanimously chosen as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Party in the Jharkhand Assembly, effectively concluding the three-and-a-half-month suspense surrounding the Leader of Opposition (LoP) position.

This decision was reached during a meeting of BJP MLAs at the party’s state office located on Harmu Road, Ranchi, with the presence of central observers Bhupender Yadav and K. Laxman on Thursday. The party will formally notify the Speaker about Marandi’s election.

Former Chief Minister Champai Soren extended his congratulations to Marandi on his new role.

Following his election, Marandi expressed his thanks to the party leadership and fellow MLAs for their trust. 'I will commit every moment to bolstering the party both within and outside the House. My aim will be to strengthen our organization and ensure inclusivity,' he stated.

'Upon my election as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party, I sincerely thank Honorable Prime Minister @narendramodi, National President @JPNadda, Union Home Minister @AmitShah, Central Observer @drlaxmanbjp, State Incharge @BJPNagendraji, Regional Organization General Secretary @bjpkarmveer, State Executive President @RavindrarayBJP, and all fellow MLAs,' he said in a post on X.

Marandi reiterated his resolve to advocate for the rights of the poor, Dalits, tribals, and marginalized communities, vowing to be their representative in the Assembly, in alignment with the party’s policies and principles.

Reflecting on his previous tenure, he mentioned that BJP MLAs had elected him as their leader previously as well, but claimed that the Speaker, acting with 'malice,' delayed the matter for four years.

'Nevertheless, we remained resolute in addressing public concerns and strongly opposing the state government’s misguided decisions,' he asserted.
