Rabindra Mahato Re-elected as Jharkhand Assembly Speaker for Consecutive Term

Ranchi, Dec 10 (NationPress) Rabindra Nath Mahato has been re-elected as Speaker of the Jharkhand Assembly with unanimous support, marking a historic moment as he becomes the first legislator in the state’s history to secure the Speaker's role for a consecutive term.
In total, seven proposals were presented by both the ruling party and the Opposition to the Assembly Secretary before the deadline.
Each proposal endorsed Mahato's candidacy. Pro-tem Speaker Stephen Marandi announced the unanimous selection to the House, after which Chief Minister Hemant Soren and senior BJP MLA Babulal Marandi ceremoniously positioned him in the Speaker’s chair.
Key figures, including CM Soren, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Radha Krishna Kishore, senior BJP MLA Babulal Marandi, RJD's Suresh Paswan, CPI-ML's Arup Chatterjee, JD-U's Saryu Rai, LJP's Janardan Paswan, AJSU Party's Nirmal Mahato, and JLKM's Jairam Mahato, congratulated Rabindra Nath Mahato for his fairness and integrity.
Opposition leaders expressed optimism that he would continue to maintain impartiality within the Assembly.
Mahato expressed his appreciation for the confidence placed in him and pledged to serve with unwavering dedication.
His re-election signifies a pivotal moment in Jharkhand's political landscape, challenging the long-held belief that no Speaker could be re-elected while in office.
Mahato, a seasoned leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), first won the Nala seat in 2005. Although he faced defeat in the 2009 elections, he made a remarkable comeback in 2014 and has continued his winning streak in the 2019 and 2024 elections.
Born on January 12, 1960, in Patanpur village of Jamtara district, Mahato hails from a modest background. His father, Golak Bihari Mahato, a primary schoolteacher, passed away just three days ago. Despite this personal loss, Mahato embraced the Speaker's role with a strong sense of commitment.
A science graduate from Bhagalpur University (1982), Mahato is recognized for his principled and ethical lifestyle. His affidavit submitted to the Election Commission reveals total assets valued at Rs 97.56 lakh, with an annual income of Rs 10.57 lakh in his 2024-25 tax return.
Mahato boasts a clean record, with no criminal charges against him, further bolstering his reputation as a leader dedicated to transparency and public service.
