Bail Granted to Estranged Left-Backed MLA Anvar in Vandalism Incident

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 6 (NationPress) The apprehension of Nilambur legislator P.V. Anvar late Sunday night has ignited escalating backing for the estranged Left-backed leader. Accused of vandalizing the District Forest Office on Sunday, Anvar was granted bail by the Nilambur First Class Magistrate court the following day.

The Leader of Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, criticized the arrest on Monday, further intensifying the uproar.

Anvar, who has distanced himself from the CPI(M)-led Left due to his criticisms of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, was seeking to align with the Congress-led opposition. However, Satheesan was firmly against this collaboration, resulting in no alliance being formed.

In the wake of his detention, numerous opposition figures condemned the manner of Anvar's arrest and his subsequent incarceration under the leadership of Vijayan, who also oversees the Home Affairs portfolio.

Satheesan pointed out that the man-animal conflict is a crucial issue in Kerala, especially in Anvar's constituency, where a recent incident involving an elephant attack resulted in a fatality. “Anvar stood in solidarity with his constituents during the protest following the tragedy. It’s astonishing that merely hours later, law enforcement surrounded his residence and apprehended him,” stated Satheesan.

He drew comparisons to other incidents, mentioning State Education Minister V. Sivankutty and another legislator involved in causing damages in the State Assembly, neither of whom faced arrest.

Satheesan confirmed that despite Anvar’s attempts to reach out, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has not begun any talks regarding his potential inclusion.

Anvar was arrested after a demonstration outside the District Forest Office (DFO) in Malappuram concerning the death of a tribal individual who was trampled by a wild elephant.

According to law enforcement, Anvar and his supporters were involved in the vandalism of the office, leading to non-bailable charges being filed against him and ten others.

A local court sentenced Anvar to 14 days in judicial custody late Sunday night. On Monday, his supporters submitted a bail application, and after deliberating on the plea, the court ultimately granted him bail.
