Kolkata, Nov 25 (NationPress) The General Secretary of Trinamool Congress and Lok Sabha MP, Abhishek Banerjee, issued a challenge on Tuesday to the Election Commission of India (ECI), urging them to livestream the upcoming meeting with a delegation of 10 party MPs scheduled for November 28.
"A time has been requested for a delegation of 10 MPs. They are representatives ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, in stark contrast to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and ECI officials, who are appointed by the Government of India. These selective disclosures, painting the ECI as 'transparent' and 'cordial,' are merely a manufactured illusion. If the @ECISVEEP truly values transparency, why is it hesitant to engage openly with just 10 MPs? Conduct the meeting publicly. TELECAST IT LIVE and address the five straightforward, legitimate questions that the AITC will pose. Is the Election Commission ready to demonstrate its transparency or is it merely operating behind closed doors?" Banerjee expressed in a post on social media.
Earlier today, it was reported that the ECI had sent a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Chairperson, Mamata Banerjee, granting approval for a meeting with the party delegation to discuss various matters, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) being conducted by the commission in the state. Consequently, 11 a.m. on Friday has been set for the meeting to take place at the ECI's headquarters in New Delhi.
Subsequently, Derek O'Brien, the leader of the Trinamool Congress's Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha, communicated with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, providing the names of the members of the 10-member delegation who will attend the meeting.
In addition to O'Brien, the delegation consists of Lok Sabha members Satabdi Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Pratima Mondal, Sajda Ahmed, Mahua Moitra, and Rajya Sabha members Dola Sen, Mamata Thakur, Saket Gokhale, and Prakash Chik Barik.
Following this, Abhishek Banerjee reiterated his challenge on social media, pushing for a live telecast of the meeting.
