Kolkata, Aug 5 (NationPress) Santa Paul, a Bangladeshi model who was recently detained, made several attempts to disguise herself as an Indian citizen. According to investigators, she tried to interact with local authorities and police under various pretenses.
Officials revealed that Paul was eager to maintain a facade as a supposed Indian national. She even approached law enforcement with a fabricated complaint, presenting herself as an Indian resident in search of justice.
On Tuesday, a police spokesperson reported that during her stay in Kolkata after her visa expired, Paul lodged a false complaint against an interior design firm. She accused them of defrauding her of a significant sum of money related to her flat's decoration in Golf Green, South Kolkata.
"She submitted a written complaint against the design firm at the Thakurpukur Police Station located in Behala, South Kolkata. Paul had purchased a flat in Golf Green and was quoted several lakhs of rupees by the hired interior decoration company," stated a city police official.
In her complaint, the official noted that Paul claimed to have paid several lakhs upfront. However, she alleged that no work commenced even after payment, prompting her to file a police report.
The police official highlighted that typically, foreign nationals residing illegally in another country tend to remain low-key and avoid contacting law enforcement, fearing exposure of their true identity.
"However, this Bangladeshi model exhibited overconfidence and did not hesitate to approach the police with her complaint," the officer added.
Generally, anyone can file a police complaint, making it challenging to determine if the individual is an Indian citizen or an undocumented foreigner.
Following her arrest, questions emerged regarding how Paul acquired and registered the flat in Golf Green.
On Tuesday morning, the Anti-Rowdy Squad (ARS) of the Kolkata Police apprehended one Soumik Dutta in Naihati, North 24 Parganas district, for allegedly facilitating fake Indian documentation for Paul.
