Kolkata, Aug (NationPress) The Anti-Rowdy Squad (ARS) of the Kolkata Police has apprehended a young man from Naihati in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. He is accused of aiding in the creation of counterfeit Indian identity documents for Santa Paul, the Bangladeshi model recently taken into custody.

The arrested individual has been named as Soumik Dutta (36), son of the Late Subinay Chandra Dutta, and a resident of North 24 Parganas. His arrest occurred at his residence.

A police official stated, "A youth has been detained for assisting in procuring illegal documents, including fake Indian identity papers, for the Bangladeshi model apprehended last week. We are looking into his involvement in enabling her to remain in the country with these fraudulent documents. Additional details will follow."

On July 28, officers from the Park Street police station arrested Santa Paul from an apartment located in Kolkata's Golf Green area, South Kolkata. The police grew suspicious upon examining the documents provided during her passport application. During the operation, multiple Bangladeshi documents were seized from Santa's apartment.

Reports indicate that Paul, who works as a model, initially entered India with a valid visa. However, rather than departing before her visa's expiration, she managed to secure counterfeit Indian documents, such as an Aadhaar card and a Voter ID card, for herself during this period.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has communicated to the Kolkata Police that Paul's visa expired in 2021, after which she has been residing in the country illegally.

With these developments, concerns have arisen regarding the effectiveness of the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) in monitoring such matters. According to regulations, when a foreign national enters the country, this Central office is responsible for ensuring that the individual departs upon visa expiration. If a foreigner fails to return to their home country, the FRO must alert the police.

Police sources have revealed that two cards were discovered bearing the same Aadhaar number. One card lists an address in Kolkata, while the other corresponds to an address in Burdwan. Additionally, a voter card registered in Santa Paul's name was located at the Burdwan address.

Point of View

We must recognize that this incident highlights critical issues surrounding immigration control and document verification in our nation. It is vital that authorities improve surveillance and enforcement to prevent such illegal activities and ensure the integrity of our immigration system.
