Kolkata, Aug 1 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police are perplexed by how Santa Paul, a Bangladeshi model arrested in Kolkata earlier this week for allegedly overstaying her visa after obtaining fraudulent Indian identification documents, managed to secure an Aadhaar card listing a village panchayat in West Bengal's East Burdwan district as her ancestral address.
The police have interrogated numerous residents of Gopalpur, the village in question, but none recognized Paul as a local.
It has been reported that Paul, who is a model, entered India legally with a valid visa. However, rather than leaving before her visa expired, she created counterfeit documents, including an Aadhaar card and Voter ID, during that period.
Once in possession of these forged documents, she began living in Kolkata permanently and started earning significant income through modeling and acting roles, according to the city police investigating the case.
Authorities discovered that she had appeared in supporting roles in several Bengali and Tamil films over the past few years. She also acquired property on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, co-owned with her live-in partner, a merchant navy official from Andhra Pradesh.
The police are currently exploring whether Paul leveraged her connections in the entertainment industry to establish any influential relationships within West Bengal and beyond, which allowed her to function openly in the glamour and acting scenes without raising suspicion.
Notably, she was a successful model in Bangladesh as well, having received awards for her work, and previously served as a staff member at Regent Airways in Bangladesh.
