Patna, Sep 30 (NationPress) The Banka Police have apprehended a young man accused of making death threats against Bihar Government’s Building Construction Minister and Amarpur MLA Jayant Raj through Facebook Messenger, as confirmed by an official on Tuesday.
The suspect was captured in Ludhiana, Punjab, along with the mobile device used for sending the threat.
District SP Upendra Nath Verma reported that the incident occurred on September 22, when the minister was threatened via a message on his Facebook account.
This message included inappropriate comments, images of firearms, and indicated a connection to the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
In response to the threat, Minister Jayant Raj’s secretary, Mohan Kumar Singh, filed a complaint at the Amarpur Police Station in Banka district.
A case was swiftly registered under the pertinent sections of the Arms Act and the Information Technology Act.
“Considering the gravity of the situation, we established a special investigation team led by Banka SDPO Amar Vishwas and Cyber DSP Anupesh Narayan. The team utilized technical surveillance and cyber tracking to apprehend the suspect in Ludhiana,” stated Verma.
The arrested individual, Sandeep Paswan, hails from Salempur village within the jurisdiction of the Amarpur police station in Banka district.
He has been returned to Bihar on a transit remand for further questioning.
Authorities are currently examining whether Paswan has any real connections to criminal organizations or if his claims of gang affiliation were merely a tactic to instill fear.
The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang continues to be a source of intimidation in Bihar, with various notable figures receiving threats purportedly linked to the group.
Independent Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, also known as Pappu Yadav, has been among those who have received threats.
In recent months, Yadav reported multiple threatening phone calls and WhatsApp messages alleging ties with the Bishnoi gang.
However, subsequent investigations by the police have uncovered these threats to be unfounded, with no direct connection to the gang.
