On Quit India Day, 9 August, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj and several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders fanned out across New Delhi to conduct cleanliness drives at freedom fighter memorials and pay floral tributes, as part of the week-long build-up to India's 80th Independence Day. The drives spanned multiple Delhi constituencies, from Malviya Nagar in the south to Najafgarh in the west and North-East Delhi.

Bansuri Swaraj at Malviya Nagar

MP Bansuri Swaraj led a cleanliness drive at Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Park in Malviya Nagar, where she also laid a floral tribute at the statue of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. Addressing Malviya Nagar Assembly workers gathered at the site, she said, 'In the 80th year of Independence, by cleaning the memorials of our martyrs and paying floral tributes, we salute our national heroes.'

She added, 'These were the martyrs who gave their lives smilingly so that we could attain freedom. Today reminds us that the nation comes first.' She also appealed to those present to pledge their commitment to building a developed India that fulfils the dreams of the nation's martyrs. She was joined by BJP New Delhi district president Ravindra Chaudhary, Municipal Councillor Leena Kumar, District General Secretary Satyendra Kumar, Monika Juneja, and others.

Tributes at Netaji's Memorial in CR Park

Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Roy administered an oath to party workers at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Memorial in CR Park, pledging to undertake regular cleanliness activities at the site. Paying her respects at Netaji's statue, she said, 'On August 9, Quit India Day, I feel honoured to serve at the memorial of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.'

North-East Delhi: Two Memorials, Multiple Leaders

At the Shaheed Mahesh Chand Sharma Memorial at Khajuri Chowk in North-East Delhi, MLA Ajay Mahawar conducted a cleanliness drive alongside Delhi BJP vice president Ranjeet Kashyap and local workers, followed by a floral tribute at Sharma's statue. Mahawar said, 'By cleaning the memorials of those brave souls who sacrificed their lives for the nation, we have made a small effort to repay our debt to them.'

Separately, at the Shaheed Major Asharam Tyagi Memorial at Maujpur Chowk, Delhi BJP vice president Vinod Bacheti and MLA Jitendra Mahajan joined Naveen Shahdara District president Master Vinod and local party workers for similar activities. Mahajan said, 'Remembering our martyrs and serving their memorials is the duty of every nationalist Indian.'

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, Najafgarh

At Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk in Najafgarh, Delhi BJP vice president Rajesh Bhatia and Kisan Morcha President Devendra Solanki led cleanliness activities and paid floral tributes at the statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The event marked one of the most prominent stops on the day's circuit of memorial drives across the capital.

The coordinated drives reflect the BJP's city-wide mobilisation ahead of 15 August 2025, with the party framing civic participation at freedom fighter memorials as a form of patriotic remembrance. Similar drives are expected to continue through Independence Day week.
