Jaipur, August 6 (NationPress) In a significant move, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP chief for Rajasthan, Madan Rathore, brought attention to the Barmer refinery during a session in the Upper House, spotlighting the project's extensive socio-economic implications. In reply to Rathore’s inquiry, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi, provided essential updates on the refinery's progress.
As of July 15, 2025, the Rajasthan Refinery Limited (RRL), located in Pachpadra (Barmer), is reported to be 90.3% complete.
Advanced facilities, including the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU), Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU), Fuel Hydrotreating Unit (FHTU), and Diesel Hydrotreating Unit (DHTU), have been successfully constructed, showcasing technical excellence, high construction standards, and efficient execution.
MP Madan Rathore stated that the project has attracted an investment exceeding Rs 52,877 crore thus far, creating direct employment opportunities for more than 35,000 individuals. He asserted that the initiative is driving both economic and social transformation in Rajasthan.
Adjacent rural communities are experiencing remarkable growth in job opportunities, skill enhancement, and infrastructure development.
Rathore also pointed out that the project has passed its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Social Impact Assessment (SIA), ensuring adherence to all environmental and social standards. This underscores the Central government’s dedication to responsible industrial growth and environmental sustainability.
The Ministry has indicated that the refinery is anticipated to be fully operational by March 31, 2026. Once operational, it is poised to diminish India’s reliance on petroleum imports, enhance domestic production, and yield significant foreign exchange savings.
Labeling it as a key element in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, and Developed India @2047, Rathore remarked: “This refinery is not only generating employment; it’s positioning Rajasthan at the helm of India’s energy transformation. It will bolster export capabilities, draw international investments, and encourage technical collaboration and sustainable progress.”
He added: “The triumph of the Barmer Refinery exemplifies that with honest politics, visionary policies, and transparent implementation, even the desert can witness a surge of development. This project represents more than just a refinery—it embodies employment, empowerment, and national pride.”
