Haveri, May 22 (NationPress) BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has called on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao to annul the state government's decision to suspend the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras located within government hospitals in Haveri district.
In a letter addressing this concern, he highlighted that the local association of Jan Aushadhi Kendra proprietors has requested the revocation of the government's order.
Bommai emphasized that halting the Jan Aushadhi Kendras operating in government hospital premises would hinder the central government's aim of delivering high-quality generic medications to the public and economically disadvantaged groups at low prices.
He urged the government to reassess the situation and direct the relevant authorities to take prompt action.
Recently, the Karnataka government announced the suspension of Jan Aushadhi centres functioning within government hospitals.
Minister Gundu Rao remarked, "While it is true that Jan Aushadhi provides medicines at subsidized rates, the Karnataka government offers free medications. Therefore, what is the necessity of Jan Aushadhi within government hospital premises?"
"Only the Jan Aushadhi Kendras within government hospitals are suspended, while those outside will remain operational," Gundu Rao clarified.
Additionally, government doctors are prohibited from suggesting that patients acquire prescribed medications from external sources.
Hospitals have been advised to negotiate special pricing with the Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI) or directly procure generic medicines from BPPI to distribute them free of charge to patients, as stated by Minister Rao.
Bommai, while discussing the advancement of railway infrastructure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noted, "Railways play a crucial role in transforming India into a developed nation. Our Prime Minister has been emphasizing the growth of rail and road infrastructure, which is commendable."
He made these comments during a video conference to inaugurate the renovated Gadag railway station under the Amrit Bharat scheme, organized by the South Western Railway, Hubballi Division.
He expressed satisfaction that over Rs 23 crore had been allocated for the enhancement of the historic Gadag railway station, instilling pride and celebration.
Gadag is known for its historical significance, spiritual heritage, the legacy of poet Kumaravyasa, and its status as a printing center. Betageri is also recognized for its handlooms.
He stressed that prioritizing development would significantly enhance industries, commerce, and tourism.
The Gadag-Wadi railway line project is underway, and upon completion, it will improve connectivity to Hyderabad.
Moreover, a new railway line from Gadag to Yalavigi has been approved, thanks to the efforts of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and Prime Minister Modi, Bommai mentioned.
Once this connection is established, it will facilitate travel to Hyderabad via Haveri and Gadag.
Currently, over 500 Vande Bharat trains operate nationwide, marking a revolution in Indian Railways.
"By making this citizen-centric and enhancing commercial development, railways can play a pivotal role in constructing a developed India. The Prime Minister’s dedication to advancing rail and road infrastructure is highly praiseworthy," Bommai concluded.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for all these advancements," he added.
