Kolkata, Nov 18 (NationPress) An Afghan national was apprehended at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Tuesday while attempting to leave India using a forged Indian passport.

Authorities reported that a lookout notice had been issued for him in Afghanistan. The individual was en route to a foreign destination when he was caught in the act.

A police spokesperson confirmed that necessary legal actions are underway against him.

Identified as Wasim Ahmed, he had illegally entered India from Afghanistan with a counterfeit passport.

“He had been residing in the Bowbazar area of central Kolkata for a duration before being intercepted on his way to Kuala Lumpur,” the officer stated.

Wasim hails from Lashkargarh in Kabul.

In Afghanistan, a lookout notice was issued under the name AB Wahab. He managed to flee from Afghanistan using a fraudulent passport,” the officer explained.

Upon his arrest, authorities seized two passports from him.

“One was an Afghan passport under the name Nasir Ahmed, while the other was an Indian passport with the name Nasir Khan,” the official added.

The reason behind the lookout notice in Afghanistan remains unclear.

“An investigation is underway to uncover his intentions in India, his activities, and potential contacts. We are scrutinizing every aspect,” remarked a senior official from the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

This incident occurs amid the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal's electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission.
