Kolkata, March 12 (NationPress) The Governor of West Bengal, C.V. Ananda Bose, expressed his strong belief that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will act appropriately to address the issues surrounding allegations of bogus voters in West Bengal.
“These are matters that typically arise before elections. The authenticity of these claims must be verified. The situation is currently under the purview of the Election Commission of India. I am confident that they will arrive at a just resolution,” the Governor stated to reporters during an event hosted by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at its border outpost in Panitanki, located in the Darjeeling district.
His remarks followed a meeting the previous day where a group of Trinamool Congress MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha engaged with the full commission at its headquarters in Delhi, raising specific inquiries about the issue of duplicate EPIC numbers that exist across the nation.
The Trinamool Congress delegation also presented a memorandum to the ECI, requesting detailed information on the total number of EPIC cards with duplicate numbers in the country, along with a state-wise breakdown.
Regarding the Kolkata Police's request for space to establish a police outpost within the Jadavpur University campus, the Governor stated that the university administration must make the decision.
“However, this decision must adhere to the existing regulations. If the decision is legal, I will not intervene. Yet, if I perceive any injustice or irregularity, I will step in as the university chancellor. But that moment has not arrived yet,” the Governor remarked.
On another note, the Governor emphasized that the new National Education Policy of the Union government will prove to be transformative. “This policy is focused on both Indian and scientific advancement, and will soon position educational institutions in the country as global centers of excellence,” he added.
