Bengal LoP Adhikari Claims Minister Encourages Population Surge; Shares Video Evidence

Kolkata, Nov 30 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Saturday accused a minister from West Bengal of fostering a population explosion within a specific community by endorsing the concept of “Hum do, Hamare Chaar.”
Adhikari made a comprehensive post on his official X account on Saturday, attaching a video that allegedly shows Siddiqullah Choudhury, the West Bengal Minister responsible for the Department of Mass Education Extension and Library Services, speaking on similar lines.
However, IANS was unable to verify the authenticity of the video shared by Adhikari.
According to Adhikari, this same minister had previously asserted that he would prevent the implementation of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
The LoP further remarked that such remarks are quite troubling, especially when India, a nation grappling with a serious population explosion, has sought ways for decades to educate citizens on this issue and promote the advantages of smaller families.
“Regrettably, a senior minister of the Mamata government is advocating for ‘people’ to have more children, and that too, within the Vidhan Sabha. This raises alarm bells for West Bengal, the most densely populated state in India, where countless Rohingyas have already settled and the minority population has surpassed 35 percent. Is this a covert suggestion aimed at a particular community? Is this a subtle call for a demographic shift?” Adhikari stated in his post.
He also called upon the Union government to pass the Population Control Bill to curb the escalating population growth and address the demographic shifts that challenge the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Otherwise, he warned, such individuals will continue to make efforts to encourage parts of society to have more children, as it aligns with their political agenda.
