Bengal School Employment Case: Daily Trial Proceedings Expected in ED Case

Kolkata, Dec 16 (NationPress) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been given specific indications by a special court handling the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Kolkata that the trial process for the case registered by the ED, concerning the alleged multi-crore cash-for-school-job scam in West Bengal, may proceed on a daily basis, according to sources informed about the developments on Monday.

The ED has initiated the required paperwork with the special court to commence the charge-framing process in this case, after which the trial will officially begin.

On Monday, while instructing the central agency to compile a list of witnesses by Wednesday and present it to the court, the judge hinted that, if necessary, the trial could be fast-tracked and held daily.

In a related note, the trial for the heinous rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, which occurred in August, is also being conducted on a fast track and daily basis in another special court in Kolkata.

On the same day, the PMLA special court instructed ED officials to promptly issue notices to individuals named as accused or witnesses in the recently filed fifth supplementary chargesheet by the central agency.

Last Friday, a division bench of the Supreme Court of India granted bail to former West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee until February 1 and instructed the ED to complete the charge-framing process by that date.

The apex court also noted that if the charge-framing process is completed before February 1, Chatterjee may be released on bail that very day. Following this directive, the ED commenced the preparatory steps for the charge-framing process on Monday.
