Odisha secures ₹43,437 crore investment at Food Pro 2026, 43,316 jobs on offer
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Odisha government secured total investment proposals worth ₹43,437 crore on the first day of Food Pro 2026 in New Delhi on 7 August 2025, with the potential to create 43,316 employment opportunities across the state's food-processing sector. The roadshow, the first sector-focused investment event organised by Odisha outside the state, drew strong industry participation and underscored growing investor confidence in the state's agri-processing ecosystem.
Key Deals Signed
A total of 27 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed at the event, covering a proposed investment of ₹41,748 crore and the potential to generate 35,252 jobs. In addition, the state received 12 Investment Intent Forms (IIFs) worth a further ₹1,689 crore, carrying the potential for 8,064 additional employment opportunities. Combined, the two tranches pushed cumulative first-day commitments to ₹43,437 crore.
What Chief Minister Majhi Said
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, addressing industry leaders at the event, positioned food processing as central to Odisha's economic transformation. 'Food processing is not merely another industry. It is the bridge between our farmers' prosperity, rural transformation and Odisha's industrial future. Every investment in this sector creates value at the farm, generates employment in villages, strengthens exports and builds a stronger economy,' he said. Majhi added that Odisha is 'ready to become India's preferred destination for food processing' and called on industry to partner with the state.
Majhi also held a series of one-on-one meetings with leading industry figures to discuss project-specific investment opportunities and long-term collaboration in food processing and allied sectors.
Odisha's Strategic Pitch
State officials framed Food Pro 2026 as more than an investment showcase, describing it as a signal of Odisha's strategic shift toward developing integrated food processing ecosystems that link agriculture with manufacturing, exports, and global markets. The Chief Minister highlighted the state's competitive advantages: 10 agro-climatic zones, a 575-km coastline, thriving fisheries, expanding port infrastructure, and an investor-friendly policy environment.
Majhi unveiled a five-pillar roadmap anchored on the creation of specialised food processing clusters, expansion of integrated cold-chain and warehousing infrastructure, strengthening food quality and certification systems, deeper integration of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), MSMEs, and women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with organised industry, and development of a globally competitive skilled workforce.
Who Stands to Benefit
The Chief Minister emphasised that the push is designed to benefit not just large industry but also farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs, SHGs, FPOs, and rural enterprises. The government's stated aim is to ensure that major agricultural and marine products are increasingly processed within Odisha, raising producer incomes and creating sustainable jobs for youth. Officials indicated that Team Odisha would provide continuous institutional support from project conceptualisation through to commissioning, backed by transparent governance and faster approvals.
What Comes Next
With the roadshow marking Odisha's first outreach of this kind beyond its borders, the government is signalling intent to replicate the model in other cities and sectors. The scale of first-day commitments positions Odisha as an emerging competitor in India's food processing investment landscape, though the translation of MoU-stage proposals into ground-level projects will be the critical test in the months ahead.
