Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday, 25 July flagged off Bharat Taxi in Jaipur, formally expanding the cooperative ride-hailing platform to the state capital. The launch ceremony was held at the Bhagwat Singh Mehta Auditorium on the OTS campus, with Sharma attending as chief guest.

What Bharat Taxi Offers Passengers

The platform claims passengers will pay fares 10–15 per cent lower than those charged by Ola and Uber, with no surge pricing — meaning fares remain uniform even during peak hours. According to the company, commuters can save around ₹25 on rides of up to 11 km compared to other app-based taxi services. The customer mobile application has already been launched in Jaipur for bookings.

The Cooperative Model: Drivers as Owners

Bharat Taxi describes itself as India's largest cooperative mobility platform, operating on a model where drivers — referred to as 'Sarthis' — are stakeholders in the platform rather than mere service providers. The company states it has more than 8 lakh registered drivers and an equal number of passengers across the country.

Since its national launch, the platform's Sarthis have collectively received ₹77 crore directly in their accounts. Drivers associated with the platform said the cooperative structure has improved their earnings by giving them an ownership stake in the business.

What the Government Said

Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, who also attended the event alongside Rajasthan Minister of State for Cooperation (Independent Charge) Gautam Dak, called Bharat Taxi a transformational development for the cooperative sector.

'We aim to empower taxi drivers through this cooperative model, ensuring that every taxi driver is an owner. This is the vision of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. Drivers receive the entire fare amount, besides a share in the dividends earned by the company,' Mohol said.

Chief Minister Sharma highlighted the broader economic potential of the cooperative movement, noting that Gujarat and Maharashtra had demonstrated how cooperatives can drive growth. 'The vision of Sahkar Se Samriddhi has been successfully implemented in these states. The Central government has extended full support to Rajasthan in strengthening the cooperative sector,' he said.

Expansion Across India

Before its Rajasthan entry, Bharat Taxi had already launched operations in Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The Jaipur rollout marks the platform's latest geographic expansion as it seeks to scale its cooperative model nationally.

With Rajasthan now on board, the platform's trajectory will be closely watched — particularly whether its no-surge, driver-ownership model can sustain competitive fares at scale against well-capitalised rivals.
