A notice from the Education Department indicated that all schools serving students up to Class 8 will function from 7 am to 12 pm.

“As temperatures continue to rise in Bhopal, all schools up to Class 8 will close by 12 pm only. This action has been taken with the health of the students in mind. The new schedule will be effective starting Thursday,” stated the notice issued by Bhopal District Education Officer, N. K. Ahirwar.

Schools in Madhya Pradesh are set to close from April 30 onward, as the state government has previously announced summer break for all schools from May 1 to June 15.

The state Education Department released a notification on Tuesday regarding this, citing the ongoing heatwave conditions across Madhya Pradesh.

The daytime temperatures in Bhopal and several regions of Madhya Pradesh have soared to between 41 and 43 degrees Celsius in just the second week of April.

Previously, the government had also issued warnings concerning the heatwave throughout the state.

On Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest temperature was recorded in Guna at 43.4 degrees Celsius.

The IMD reported that in Narmadapuram, the temperature reached 43.2 degrees Celsius, while in Dhar, it was 42.9 degrees Celsius. In Tikamgarh, the temperature was recorded at 42.7 degrees Celsius.

Nevertheless, on Wednesday there was some relief from the heatwave as the sky remained partially cloudy over most of the state, including Bhopal.
