Patna, May 31 (NationPress) In a significant operation, the Bihar Special Task Force (STF), in partnership with Bhojpur Police, confiscated over 2 kg of heroin valued at approximately Rs 5 crore. The operation also revealed Rs 1.27 lakh in cash during a raid conducted in Kurmi Tola, situated in Anaith Mohalla under the Nawada police station jurisdiction in Ara.
This operation resulted in the detention of two suspects identified as Ankush Kumar from Kurmi Tola, Anaith Mohalla, and Indrajit Kumar from Paswan Toli, both within the same area.
The confiscated items included 2 kg 107 grams of heroin, a luxury vehicle, Rs 1,27,490 in cash, and various other crucial items, such as ATM cards and significant documents.
Ara Sadar ASP Parichay Kumar reported on Saturday, "A third suspect remains at large. His identity is being kept secret for operational security. The third suspect, the owner of the residence where the illicit shipment was found, is currently evading capture, and police teams are actively pursuing him."
Preliminary investigations indicate that the drugs were trafficked from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, to Ara, Bihar, as part of an interstate smuggling network.
Authorities are now examining the distribution network to ascertain the intended recipients of the seized materials.
“An FIR has been filed under applicable sections of the NDPS Act at the Nawada police station, and narcotics control bureau officials have been notified about the confiscations,” Kumar stated.
Officials expressed alarm over the rise in illegal substance trafficking in Bihar, reminiscent of the "Udta Punjab" crisis.
Following the liquor ban, the state has experienced an increase in the trafficking and use of other illicit substances, including heroin, opium, marijuana, and other contraband.
The police emphasized that this operation is part of a broader campaign to dismantle illegal supply chains, with further arrests anticipated as the investigation continues.
