New Delhi, Aug 11 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Monday that no political parties, including the RJD-led Opposition, have submitted any objections or grievances concerning the draft electoral rolls that were released for Bihar on August 1.

Additionally, it was reported that over 10,000 individual electors have directly submitted their complaints to the election authority, while more than 54,000 new electors, who have reached the legal voting age of 18 years, are seeking voter IDs to exercise their democratic rights.

This information was disclosed in the ECI's routine update regarding the contentious SIR initiative, a topic that has turned into a significant political issue in the election-bound Bihar, causing disruptions in Parliamentary sessions since the start of the Monsoon Session on July 21.

This development is noteworthy as it indicates no opposition to the ECI's SIR drive following the publication of draft rolls, contrasting with previous instances where several opposition parties accused the election commission of extensive manipulation to favor the ruling party.

While sharing the statistics, the ECI clarified that the claims and objections would be addressed by the relevant ERO/AERO after a period of 7 days from the verification of eligibility documents.

According to SIR guidelines, no name can be removed from the draft list published on August 1, 2025, without a formal order by the ERO/AERO after conducting an inquiry and providing a fair chance for responses.

It’s important to note that the EC released the draft electoral rolls on August 1 and has allowed a month for individuals and parties to voice their issues regarding inclusion or exclusion from the draft electoral list.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has reported having 47,506 booth-level agents (BLAs), the Congress has 17,549, and the Left has over 2,000, totaling over 67,000 agents.

Lastly, the ECI concluded the enumeration phase of the SIR from June 24 to July 25, during which more than 7.24 crore electors out of a total of 7.89 crore submitted their enumeration forms.

Point of View

It's essential to highlight that the lack of objections from political parties concerning the draft electoral rolls in Bihar signifies a striking moment in our democratic process. The absence of resistance raises questions about the political dynamics as we approach elections, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness in electoral practices.
