Patna, March 26 (NationPress) In an ongoing effort to combat corruption, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) executed a significant operation in Nalanda, the district of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, resulting in the apprehension of a Health Department official.

This action took place in the Nagarnausa block, following a bribery complaint concerning the amendment of an ASHA worker’s birth certificate.

Upon receiving the complaint, vigilance officers caught Manjit Kumar, a Block Community Mobilizer (BCM) at the Primary Health Centre, in the act of accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 10,000.

Initial demands from the accused were for Rs 25,000 from Bobby Kumari, a Nagarnausa resident. After discussions, the sum was negotiated down to Rs 10,000.

Reluctant to pay the bribe, the complainant reached out to the vigilance department, which initiated an investigation that substantiated the claims.

Following this, the VIB team set up a sting operation. As soon as the money exchanged hands, officials swooped in, capturing the suspect red-handed at his location, causing a stir in the vicinity.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shriram Chaudhary confirmed that the complaint was lodged on February 23, and after thorough verification, a raid team was assembled to carry out the operation effectively.

The arrested individual is now in custody for questioning, with further legal actions set to follow.

This incident has reverberated through the health administration, with employees experiencing a palpable sense of apprehension amidst the ongoing anti-corruption campaign in Bihar.

Notably, this marks the second significant operation by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau in the Nagarnausa block of Nalanda within a single week, underscoring a persistent anti-corruption initiative in the region.

Previously, on March 20, another Block Panchayati Raj Officer (BPRO) stationed at the Block Office was also detained for taking a bribe of Rs 12,000.

This demand was linked to processing a file related to the Chhath Puja Ghat development scheme.

The consecutive operations have heightened scrutiny on block-level offices and raised alarms about systemic corruption within local governance.

Simultaneously, these actions are perceived as a strong message from authorities, emphasizing that stringent measures are being enforced to eradicate bribery and promote accountability in governmental operations throughout Bihar.
