Patna, Dec 4 (NationPress) Following the tragic murder of BPSC teacher Shivani Verma in Bihar's Araria district, her sister Julie Verma has made alarming accusations that implicate another teacher, introducing a significant twist in this developing case.
Julie, who resides in Uttar Pradesh, hurried to Araria upon learning of her sister's death.
In an interview with the press, she shared her suspicions regarding the motives behind Shivani's murder.
Julie stated, “I am demanding justice for my sister's murder and appropriate compensation. I have yet to meet any high-ranking officials, nor has anyone come to speak with me.”
She alleged that a teacher named Ranjeet Verma, who works at the same institution as Shivani, had been persistently pressuring her sister to marry him for over a year.
“He often told my sister, ‘We are both from Uttar Pradesh. You are a BPSC teacher, and so am I.’ He continually pushed her to accept his marriage proposal,” Julie claimed.
According to her, Shivani declined the offer, stating her intention to concentrate on her UPSC exam preparations and assist her two older sisters.
However, Ranjeet allegedly did not relent and even resorted to issuing threats.
Shivani reportedly informed the headmaster, Umesh Yadav, about these threats.
Julie asserted that, despite the headmaster's assurances to Shivani that she would be safe, the harassment persisted.
She claimed that Ranjeet and his associates would recklessly ride their motorcycles near Shivani’s scooter to intimidate her and create a potential accident.
Shivani had previously reported these incidents, and the issue was supposedly addressed at the school level.
Julie further alleged that Ranjeet might have orchestrated a conspiracy and employed accomplices to execute the attack in an effort to divert blame.
She also revealed that Shivani had recently approached the District Magistrate to complain about being denied the special leave that female educators are entitled to.
As a result of her complaint, the DM admonished Principal Umesh Yadav, and the incident garnered media attention.
“I believe the school's staff conspired against my sister,” Julie expressed.
Julie Verma lodged a formal complaint at the Narpatganj police station on Wednesday night, naming Ranjeet Kumar Verma from Kanhaili Middle School as a suspect.
Authorities have detained the accused teacher and are conducting an investigation.
Purnea Range DIG Pramod Kumar Mandal visited the scene to gather information from the local community.
DIG Mandal confirmed, “We have detained a named suspect and are currently interrogating him. The investigation is thorough and includes reports of a shooter involved, which is also under scrutiny. We aim to resolve this case expeditiously.”
The shooting occurred on Wednesday morning between 8 and 9 a.m. while Shivani was en route from Forbesganj to Kanhaili Senior Secondary School in the Narpatganj block.
Near the Kanhaili Shiva Temple, two unidentified armed men on a motorcycle ambushed her and shot her in the head.
