Patna, Jan 25 (NationPress) In a major operation against the illicit liquor trade, the East Champaran Police in Bihar seized the assets of Ranjit Gupta, a prominent liquor dealer, in Jeevdhara village on Saturday.
Following the orders of the district court, the police, led by Sadar DSP-2 Jitesh Kumar Pandey, executed the asset attachment at Gupta's home.
Ranjit Gupta has a history of over a dozen cases against him in various police stations within East Champaran district, raising concerns about his participation in illegal liquor activities.
During the operation, police confiscated all movable possessions from his residence. This action was a collaborative effort, involving police teams from several stations, including Chakia, under the guidance of DSP Satyendra Kumar Singh and Sadar DSP-2 Jitesh Kumar Pandey.
This operation aligns with Bihar’s stringent enforcement of its liquor prohibition law, established in 2016. The initiative against liquor traders like Ranjit Gupta is part of a sustained campaign to diminish the illegal liquor market in the state.
DSP Jitesh Kumar Pandey disclosed that more than 1,800 litres of liquor and two trucks were recently confiscated in the Kesaria police station vicinity.
“The recovered liquor and vehicles were traced back to Ranjit Gupta, leading to the filing of Case No. 119/24. Despite being given a chance to surrender, Gupta did not comply, which led the police to act on the court’s order to seize his property,” Pandey stated.
During the confiscation, Ranjit Gupta's spouse, Neetu Gupta, a member of the Zila Parishad, vocally objected to the police operation.
She contended that she lives alone in the residence while her two children are in a hostel. Neetu Gupta claimed that her husband is being wrongfully accused.
“My husband is being falsely implicated in the liquor trade. All the cases against him are fabricated. This is a plot by my political adversaries,” she asserted.
Despite her objections, the police proceeded with the seizure, removing all movable items from the property.
