New Delhi, Oct 24 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has mandated that all polling stations in Bihar for the upcoming assembly elections and the eight bye-elections be equipped with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs). This initiative aims to ensure an uninterrupted and dignified voting experience for all voters.
In a press release, the ECI emphasized the need to create a voter-friendly atmosphere and maintain accessibility standards at all polling locations.
According to the ECI, the AMF provisions include drinking water, a waiting area, restrooms with water, sufficient lighting, ramps for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), standard voting booths, and clear signage.
To boost voter engagement and awareness, the Commission will install four standardized Voter Facilitation Posters (VFPs) at each polling station.
These posters will provide essential information about the polling station, details of the candidates, a list of do’s and don’ts for voters, acceptable forms of ID, and a guide to the voting process.
Moreover, Voter Assistance Booths (VABs) will be set up at each polling location, staffed by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other officials to assist voters in locating their polling booth numbers and positions on the electoral roll.
Each VAB will feature visible signage to ensure easy identification.
In an innovative move, a mobile phone deposit service will be available outside polling stations. Voters must hand over their switched-off phones to a designated volunteer before entering the station and can retrieve them after voting.
The ECI has instructed all field officers to finalize all AMF-related setups well in advance of polling day.
The Commission reiterated that these facilities are essential and will be closely monitored to guarantee every voter experiences a smooth, safe, and inclusive voting process.
