Patna, July 17 (NationPress) An alarming event at Paras Hospital in Patna has ignited significant political turmoil in Bihar, with leaders from the BJP, Janata Dal (United), and Hindustani Awam Morcha denouncing the audacious shooting of an undertrial inmate receiving treatment in a private facility. In response, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has vehemently criticized the administration led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming that Bihar is experiencing a state of “gunda raj” and that the law enforcement situation is worsening.
In light of the incident, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Sinha labeled it as “a tragic and deeply unsettling occurrence.” He emphasized, “Every hospital must implement its own security measures. I want to reassure the public that those responsible for this atrocious act will face consequences. The Bihar government will enact strict measures.”
JD(U) leader Ashok Choudhary voiced similar concerns, questioning the security protocols at the hospital: “What was the management doing? This is a serious issue that warrants attention.”
Leader of the Hindustani Awam Morcha Jitan Ram Manjhi remarked, “Paras Hospital is a private entity that charges significant fees. They should ensure adequate security. Although it isn’t a government facility, the state has taken immediate action. The government has also signaled potential encounters and property confiscations to combat the surge in crime.”
Conversely, RJD representatives adopted a strong position against the government.
Party spokesperson Mrityunjay Yadav stated, “Bihar is shaken by rampant crime. Citizens are being shot in busy places like hospitals. The police station is merely 100 meters away. What is happening? This is nothing short of gunda raj.”
He added, “Tejashwi Yadav has persistently questioned the state of law and order, yet this government remains unresponsive.”
Earlier that day, unidentified assailants invaded Paras Hospital in the Shastri Nagar area, targeting a young man receiving treatment. Tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim, identified as Chandan Mishra (aged 25-30) from Sonbarsa block, Buxar, was hospitalized while on parole.
Mishra had ten criminal cases against him, including murder, and had been incarcerated since 2024, requiring treatment at Paras Hospital.
In a bold display of lawlessness in Bihar, approximately four armed individuals arrived on motorcycles, entered room number 209 on the hospital’s second floor, and opened fire on Chandan Mishra, inflicting severe injuries to his chest and abdomen.
The hospital descended into chaos as frightened patients and staff reacted to the gunfire.
Hospital personnel promptly notified the Shastri Nagar police, who dispatched a team to initiate an investigation.
Mishra was transferred to the ICU for close monitoring, but unfortunately, he did not survive the attack and passed away during treatment.
According to Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma, the young man named Chandan Mishra succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have recovered evidence, including spent cartridges from the location, and the Forensic Science Laboratory team has been engaged for further analysis.
