Bhubaneswar, Aug 20 (NationPress) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has formally submitted a complaint to the DGP of Odisha Police regarding the dissemination of highly offensive and defamatory videos aimed at the Leader of Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, his close associate V.K. Pandian, and his spouse, former bureaucrat Sujata Kartikeya Pandian. They are calling for the arrest of those responsible for this act on the widely used social media platform, Facebook.
“The posts are utterly disrespectful, subpar, and poorly conceived. As the leader of the BJD IT and Social Media cell, I felt it was necessary to raise a strong objection and file a complaint with @DGPOdisha. We demand immediate action to have @Meta remove these posts without delay and to track down the individuals behind these pages for prompt legal prosecution,” expressed senior BJD figure Amar Patnaik on X.
In his complaint, Patnaik indicated that the actions of those managing the implicated Facebook account potentially violate multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Patnaik detailed the offensive and defamatory material shared on the Facebook account in his complaint.
“The entirety of the content published by the specified Facebook ID is malicious, defamatory, and evidently designed to stir public unrest, tarnish the reputations of public figures, and disrupt both political and social peace,” Patnaik noted in the complaint.
He urged the DGP to file an FIR against the operators of the Facebook account named 'Odiaka Chhata' and Meta, requesting urgent measures to identify those responsible for producing and sharing these videos.
In a message on his X account, the former Rajya Sabha MP remarked, “If immediate action is not taken, both I and the citizens of Odisha will believe that these posts were orchestrated and propagated under the influence of @BJP4Odisha and the Government of @MohanMOdisha through fake accounts to create criminal defamation, public outrage, and mental distress not only for the leaders depicted in the video but for the people of Odisha as a whole.”
