Bhubaneswar, July 29 (NationPress) In response to the escalating protests led by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) against the state government under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the student and youth factions of BJD have declared a comprehensive statewide initiative, set to commence on August 1, addressing the alarming rise in violence targeting women and students in Odisha.

During a press briefing, BJD leaders voiced their profound dissatisfaction with the lack of tangible progress in the Balasore case, even after the establishment of several investigative committees.

They also highlighted similar occurrences in Balanga (Puri), Tumudibandha (Kandhamal), Malkangiri, and other areas, asserting that the government has failed to deliver justice for the affected.

To further their cause, from August 1 to 8, students from various colleges across the state will present memorandums to the Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) at their local police stations and the offices of District Superintendents of Police.

These memorandums will express concerns regarding the safety of students both on-campus and off-campus, and call for urgent measures to safeguard women and girls in Odisha.

The campaign is set to escalate from August 9 to 14, coinciding with Kranti Divas, during which millions of students will dispatch open letters via postcards to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also oversees the Home Department, demanding justice for victims of violence and prompt government intervention.

"The inaction and silence of the state government are intolerable. Students will express their demands through democratic means until justice is achieved," declared BJD MLA Byomakesh Ray.

BJD leaders further contended that the law and order situation in Odisha has deteriorated under the BJP-led administration.

During the press conference, BJD MLA Devi Ranjan Tripathy cautioned that the party would escalate its protests should the government fail to ensure a safe environment for girls across campuses in Odisha.
